Mexico Cruises: Best Cruises to Mexico

allure of the seas cruise ship

All of our expectations were exceeded and we really enjoyed this cruise. Whether you cruise multiple times per year or you're new to cruising, the goal of Royal Caribbean Blog is for it to be a useful resource for keeping up to date with what's new and exciting with Royal Caribbean. Despite feeling completely stuffed after way too much guacamole, I made room for a mouthwatering dessert of cinnamon churros, banana and chocolate chimichanga, flan, and cafe con leche. We savored a meal of guacamole (customized to your spice preference!), pico de gallo, quesadillas, fish and chicken tacos, and queso fundido.

Is Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas a good ship to cruise on?

Some specialty restaurants claim to have a dress code, but it's not enforced. For example, Chops, the onboard steakhouse, is supposed to be formal. However, I dined next to a table full of sports jersey-clad passengers who didn't seem the least bit out of place.

Allure’s size means there’s a myriad bars, from the Latin-themed Bolero’s nightclub, with a salsa band and dance floor, to the On-Air Club karaoke bar. All Royal Caribbean cruise ships are known for offering top-notch, complimentary entertainment, but Oasis Class ships take entertainment to the next level. With diving performances, ice-skating, a Broadway show, and endless live music choices, there’s plenty of ways to keep busy on Allure of the Seas.

Ten different suite categories range from the 287 square foot Junior Balcony Suite sleeping five to massive two-level multi-room suites. All suites have bathtubs and access to the suite lounge’s Coastal Kitchen, a restaurant designated only for suite level passengers. Higher-end suites include complimentary internet, alcohol and specialty restaurants. Due to the ship’s size, for better or worse, passengers can often forget they’re even on a cruise ship.

This is a vertical drop slide located in the Sports Zone's pool (aft-ship location). The experience starts with a walk across a plank into the jaws of an anglerfish and boarding one of the specially-designed mats. Slide mats are colored in black, each with an opening for the feet and a strap to hold on to. Follows the vertical drop (27-degree) some 92 ft / 28 m down to the Boardwalk. The slide also features around 300 LED lights, special sound effects and various graffiti artworks.

There’s a relaxation sitting room where guests wait for their services. Guests can choose to pay an additional fee to enjoy the Thermal Suites Room with its heated loungers, saunas, and steam rooms. Pool Deck (deck 15) was completely renovated-redesigned, also receiving "The Lime and Coconut" - 2-level poolside bar offering beverages (including cocktails), live DJ programming and outdoor music performances. Swimming pools' sunbathing areas received more shaded seating (daybeds, hammocks, swing seats, casitas / small wooden cabins). The Solarium (adults-only complex) was refreshed and two new whirlpools were added.

Kids programming is free for kids ages thread older, too, so you don’t have to worry about any extra cost. Very few cruise lines can compete with Royal Caribbean when it comes to kids activities. If you have an adventurous tot or a too-cool-to-hang teen, or any age of child in between, they’ll be set with full itineraries of fun.

Allure of the Seas review: What it's like to cruise on 1 of Royal Caribbean's oldest Oasis Class ships

Central Park is a lovely space to stroll, grab a bite or sit and enjoy the greenery, but it's often excessively hot with little shade, despite all the plants. Like the Boardwalk, it's open to the sky, but the several decks of inward-facing balcony cabins that rise up around it don't allow for any sea views. There's a lot to do on the 5,492-passenger ship, which offers a plethora of activities, multiple food and drink options and a stellar kids club. For those reasons, Allure of the Seas appeals to families — particularly those with young children. It also attracts multigenerational families, friend groups and couples.

AquaTheater suites are located near the ship’s AquaTheater, and, depending on the particular suite you book, you may have more room, both inside and out. Grand and junior suites are the smallest options, but still are a step up from what you might get with a standard stateroom. For example, grand suites have large bathrooms with double vanities.

When it leaves its base on the Royal Promenade, a fountain rains down from underneath it, complete with colored lights and dancing water jets. It's a neat idea, but the fountain is absurdly loud and only adds to the already deafening cacophony in the space. In the end, I had to call guest services, and they added the booking manually. It was an issue more than once during the voyage — so much so that I resorted to calling guest services first rather than fussing with the app. At times, the nostalgic feel held over from original iterations of the Oasis class crosses the line into outdated or confusing.

The ship’s so large it’s been separated into seven distinct neighborhoods. Children will enjoy going for a ride on the full-size carousel on the Coney Island-style Boardwalk, while adults might enjoy reading a book or relaxing in the Central Park neighborhood on deck 8. Filled with real flowers, plants and trees, it’s a place to get in touch with nature, just like a park on land. More plants are found in the adults-only solarium, another peaceful respite from the non-stop excitement on the rest of the ship.

There’s a hot dog stand in The Boardwalk neighborhood and the Wipeout Café serves hamburgers on Deck 15’s sports court. While no longer the largest ship at sea, and slowly aging as it awaits for those postponed refurbishments, Allure of the Seas still has a lot to offer cruisers. The teen lounge on Deck 15 is where kids ages 12 to 17 can play video games, have fun with karaoke or head out to the teens- only dance floor.
